In this video, I'm going to be showing you how to export references out of RefWorks for use in other citation management applications, such as EndNote. So here I am, in RefWorks. I'm just going to go to 'References', and choose 'Export'. First, RefWorks want to know which references I want to export. I can export all references in my RefWorks account, or I can put all the references I want into 'My List'. And then I can choose 'My List' in here. My preferred way to do this, however, is to organize my references with folders, and then choose a desired folder to export. So here I'm just going to export all references in this 'Orange Research' folder. Next, RefWorks wants to know, in what format the exported file is going to be. Here, I want to choose 'Bibliographic Software— (EndNote, Reference Manger, ProCite)'. This will save my references in a common format that all of these applications can read and import. This format is sometimes also referred to as 'The RefMan', or 'Reference Manager', or, simply, the 'RIS' format. Okay, next I'm going to click on the 'Export' button... ...and I'll be prompted to download the exported file. Again, if you don't see this prompt, it's mostly because you've turned on the pop-up blocker of your browser. You can still click on this link here to download the file, or you can click here to have it e-mailed to you. Save this file. Okay, now that we have a file exported from RefWorks, we can jump over to EndNote, and import the file. So here I am, in EndNote. I have created an empty library for this tutorial, so I'm just going to go ahead and open it. This is going to be the library where I will put all the references I exported out of RefWorks. Next, I'm going to go to 'File'... 'Import'... I'm going to click on the 'Choose File...' button, and browse to the file I just saved from RefWorks. At 'Import' options, I want to make sure that I choose the 'Reference Manager (RIS)' filter. This will ensure that EndNote reads your RefWorks import correctly. If the filter is not in this list, you can click on 'Other Filters'. This will bring up a list of all available filters installed on your machine, and you can choose 'Reference Manager (RIS)' from there. I will leave everything else as default, and click on 'Import'. And you can see that my references have been imported into EndNote. Now, let me demo this on the Mac. 'References'... 'Export'... 'From Folder'... Choose my folder... Choose 'Bibliographic Software Format'... Click 'Export'... Save the file... Launch EndNote... Go to 'File'... 'Import'... Browse to the file we just saved... Choose the 'RIS' filter at 'Import Options'... Click 'Import'... ...and now you can see that my references have been imported into EndNote. Okay, today we learned how to export references out of RefWorks, for use in other citation management applications, such as EndNote. Thanks for watching... ...and I'll see you next time.
